Sauna Suppliers in the UK: What to Check Before You Sign a Reseller Agreement
Choosing a Sauna Supplier for the UK Market
Not every sauna supplier that ships internationally is set up to properly serve UK retailers. Here's what to check before committing.
1. UKCA/CE Certification
Ask the supplier directly whether their heater units and electrical components carry current UK conformity marking. A supplier who can't answer this clearly is a red flag — non-compliant electrical goods can be refused at UK customs or create liability once sold to a UK customer.
2. Landed Cost, Not Just Wholesale Price
A wholesale price quoted in USD or EUR ex-works doesn't reflect what the product actually costs to get to a UK customer. Ask for a landed cost estimate that includes freight, UK import VAT, and any customs duty, so you can price accurately from day one.
3. Freight Handling for Large Items
Saunas are bulky, heavy freight. Confirm whether the supplier arranges kerbside delivery, whether the customer needs to be present, and what happens if a unit is damaged in transit — before you list the product, not after your first UK customer complaint.
4. Realistic UK Lead Times
Ask for actual UK delivery timelines, not just US domestic ones. If a supplier only has US warehousing, transit to the UK adds meaningful time on top of standard processing — get this in writing so you can set accurate expectations with your customers.
5. Warranty and Returns Process for UK Customers
UK consumer law (the Consumer Rights Act) gives customers specific return and remedy rights that may differ from US terms. Confirm the supplier's warranty process accounts for this rather than defaulting to a US-only policy.
Asking these five questions upfront, before any deposit or agreement, will tell you quickly whether a supplier is genuinely set up for the UK market or just shipping US inventory abroad without adapting the process.
