Buying Direct from an Ice Bath Manufacturer: Is It Worth It for UK Resellers?

Buying Direct from an Ice Bath Manufacturer for the UK Market

Once order volume justifies it, going direct to the manufacturer instead of a supplier can improve margins — but it shifts more of the compliance and logistics work onto you.

When Direct-from-Manufacturer Makes Sense

Manufacturer direct pricing is typically only worthwhile once you're ordering enough volume to meet MOQs (often a full or partial container), since freight and customs costs don't scale down for small orders the way supplier pricing does.

UK Compliance Becomes Your Responsibility

Buying direct from an overseas factory means you — not a UK-based supplier — are responsible for ensuring UKCA marking, correct labeling, and import documentation are in order. Factor in the cost of compliance testing if the manufacturer's default certification doesn't cover UK requirements.

Freight and Customs Direct from the Manufacturer

You'll need to arrange (or hire a freight forwarder to arrange) sea or air freight, UK customs clearance, and import VAT payment. This adds complexity compared to buying from a UK supplier who's already absorbed these steps, but it's where the margin improvement comes from.

Private Labeling

Manufacturer-direct is usually the only route that allows private labeling or custom branding on the units — worth considering if building your own brand, rather than reselling, is the goal.

For most resellers starting out, a UK-based supplier is the simpler entry point; manufacturer-direct becomes worth the added complexity once volume and margin requirements justify it. See our full UK dealer program guide for the broader picture.
